Encephalopathy with clinical features of seizure episodes, myoclonus, or stroke episode

Thyroid disease ( any state of thyroid illness that is not able to justify the current symptoms)

MRI with non-specific changes

Presence of serum anti-TPO or anti-thyroglobulin antibodies

Absence of other autoantibodies in serum and/or CSF

Justified exclusion of all other causes

  1. Score ≥ 5 is required for the diagnosis of HE
  2. Score < 5 requires comprehensive evaluation for an alternate diagnosis
